Work Experience
Vets or Vet nurses in training.
We are very open to having help from hard working Vet students, especially for periods when we experience surges in activity (e.g. Spring & Summer). We generally look for a commitment of at least we week.
We can offer a very stimulating work experience environment, working very closely with our animal welfare team, and having direct experience looking after our animals and our site. There may also be opportunities to get involved in rescues and releases.
We do have a few simple requirements for Veterinary work experience:
· You have a passion for Swans and helping wildlife.
· You can commit to a week or more (important to us as we invest time in training).
· You can work hard (active physical work), as part of a team.
· You can work independently after receiving training.
· You are over the age of 18 (sadly, our insurance doesn’t cover Minors).
Other work experience (eg: Agricultural Colleges)
Like many small wildlife charities, times are extremely hard from a funding point of view. Our Trustees and staff are really needing to focus on delivering our core mission and bringing in the funds to support it.
We have in the past put a lot of time into training and chaperoning work experience Volunteers which limits how many animals we can rescue and care for over a week or more. The more animals we rescue and care for is linked to the amount of funding we can get through grants, so this is a ‘cost’ we have had to unfortunately review.
As a result, in recently reviewing our strategy we have reluctantly decided to pause for the time being offering work experience for non-veterinary students. We wanted to explain this and hope you understand the reasons for it.
